Work with your publishing consultant to determine which type of book editing to include in your publishing package.
Start by sending your manuscript to your project manager to begin the first round of edits.
Your editor works directly in Microsoft Word and provides an editorial letter alongside the edits, explaining the reasoning behind broader changes and flagging any recurring patterns in the writing.
After each round, you'll get a proof to look over in your own time, where you can accept or decline each individual suggestion.
Longer manuscripts naturally carry more room for error, so once the first round is done, your editor may suggest a second pass to polish things further.

Why does your book need editing?

How long is our book editing process?
How long editing takes depends on a few factors: word count, how many rounds are included in your package, and how long you need to review the changes. We're happy to let authors work through edits at their own pace, so timelines can also shift depending on how quickly you're able to respond.
As a general guide, each round of Copy or Line editing takes at least seven days, adding roughly two days for every 10,000 words. Developmental editing starts at 10 business days, with two extra days per 10,000 words. All edits are delivered through Microsoft Track Changes.

If your manuscript isn't quite finished yet, our book coaching service might be a better starting point.
Our Writing Coach programs suit fiction and nonfiction authors who are still drafting and want hands-on guidance along the way. Rather than working from a finished manuscript, a coach partners with you one-on-one throughout the writing process, sharpening your structure, strengthening your ideas, and keeping you accountable as you push towards the finish line. Once the manuscript is complete, you'll be well set up to move into developmental, line, or copy editing with a solid foundation already in place.
